Sky Vineyards is a fourteen-acre vineyard and small family winery nestled between the crown of Mt. Veeder and the expansive sky. Planted at an elevation of 2100 feet and on the eastern-facing hillside, the Zinfandel and Syrah grapevines ripen under full sun and fog-cooled evenings into intense berries. The reddish volcanic soil and unique physical characteristics of Sky produce a unique wine that reflects where it was grown and the care and attention it receives at every step of the process.

Sky Vineyards strives to incorporate sustainable practices into the cultivation of the vines and operation of the winery. Responsible practices include use of permanent cover crops, dry farming, promotion of bird and beneficial insects, and use of organic or low impact pesticides and fertilizers.

The resulting intensely flavored fruit is then hand-harvested and fermented in open top one-ton bins. Punch down is performed by hand three times per day. After fermentation, it is pressed in a traditional basket press and aged in French oak barrels. Lore Olds designs artwork for each new vintage.

Sky wines typically have intense fruit, raspberry, violet and peppery flavors. They are well structured and have balanced acid and tannins. These Zinfandels age beautifully, and while enjoyable when young, they continue to mature. Sky Vineyards is proud of the one hundred percent hand-crafted Zinfandel and Syrah it produces and believes the care and attention is reflected in every glass.
Lore Olds is the owner and winemaker of Sky Vineyards. Lore grew up in Berkeley and spent his summers working on the family farm in Missouri. He first worked in the wine industry in 1971 at a small winery in Oregon where he took over operations for a six-month period. He then moved to the Napa Valley, found a piece of property on the top of Mt. Veeder, cleared the land, planted grapes and started Sky. While working at Beaulieu Vineyards and Mayacamas, Lore built Sky into a sustainable small winery. Lore is also the artist behind Sky Vineyards. In addition to production of the wine, he creates a new label every year with original artwork. Lore approaches both the labels and the winemaking itself with an artistic passion and aesthetic. Living a secluded life on the top of Mt. Veeder, Lore produces primarily zinfandel from his 14-acre vineyard. He is initiating a syrah project that will be brought into fruition over the next few years.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
