Welcome to Shippey Vineyards. We make big wines in small batches. Our family vineyards are tucked away in the hills above the Dry Creek Valley and they produce wines like no others. Our story is the 21st Century equivalent of an old tale about guys making wine in the hills. In the 1800s, farm families used bottom land for wheat, orchards and livestock and they planted their vines on the hillsides. They planted field blends of big fruit varietals like Zinfandel and Petite Sirah.A century-and-a-half later, we’ve updated their techniques a bit – we use tractors, not mules, and we back up our taste buds with scientific analysis. But the core idea remains; to plant the best vines in the best spots and to trust that great wines come from great vineyards. We chose Zinfandel and Petite Sirah because we believe they’re the right grapes for our vineyard and because they’re fun and accessible winnes.

The guys behind Shippey Vineyards are four wine industry veterans. Matt Shippey has farmed his vineyard on the slopes of Bradford Mountain since 1983. Matt's cousin, Tim Shippey, has been in the business for decades, marketing wine for wineries as large as Clos du Bois (where he was Brand Manager).

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
