At Schulz Cellars, we believe that less is always more. To quote an old cliche, "it all begins in the vineyard" is an under statment to our belief that staying true to the vineyard site is key to producing great wine.

Making the right picking decisions to bring in grapes that are at the prefect ripness and in good condition enables us to make wine with minimal handling and intervention.

Our goal is to produce wines that are the best expresion of the vineyard terrior and micro climates.aving experience in both winemaking and sales, they were then lucky enough to have some close friends with recently planted vineyard land in Napa that was not yet under contract. They began making very small amounts of Zinfandel from the Lampyridae Vineyard on Mount Veeder in 2001. Their first commercially released bottling was from the 2005 vintage with a Syrah, Oak Knoll District, Fortunati Vineyard and the Zinfandel. In the 2006 vintage, they added a Red Wine to our portfolio called “Samuel’s Cuvee” which is a blend of Napa Valley Cabernet and Syrah. They will also add a Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Veeder, Lampyridae Vineyard in 2010. The result is the formation of Schulz Cellars and the commitment to producing high quality vineyard designate wines from the Napa Valley.

The 2008 harvest has been a great success and the vintage looks to be another spectacular year from Napa Valley. All of our grapes came in pretty much on schedule with everything being picked between the last week of September and the first week of October. Unfortunately, the Lampyridae Vineyard on Mount Veeder was hit hard by frost in the spring so we are lookiing at about.2007 Lampyridae Vineyard, Zinfandel
88 – Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine
Volume 33 Issue 11: September 2009

The first impression upon smelling this wine is that it has given itself over to pushy, toasty, spotlight-grabbing oak. But, as is often the case, first impressions can be misleading, and, here that was so, because there is plenty of ripe blackberry fruit underneath just yearning to breathe free, which it does with little more than a hard shake of the glass. The wine is full in body, on the supple side to start but drifts into slight stiffness in the latter palate and wants a bit of aging.

2006 Lampyridae Vineyard Zinfandel
90 points – Wine Enthusiast
Mount Veeder is one of the best sources of Zinfandel in California, and this bottling shows why. It’s very dry, richly textured and elegant, with succulent flavors of black, blue and red berries, currants, carob, tobacco, herbs, pepper and Asian spices. Drink now with beef and pork dishes. – S.H. (2/1/2009)

"Serves up a complex mix of dark berry, blue, boysenberry and huckleberry all show prominently displayed, joined by spice, leather, cedar and herbal scents. Supple textured." Drink now throug
