Winemaker: Jeff Gaffner

Winemaking:
Saxon Brown is one of the few wine producers keeping the tradition of field blending alive. Owner/winemaker Jeff Gaffner draws from his family's century-old Casa Santinamaria Vineyard in Sonoma for his "old vine" "field blended" Zinfandel and Semillon. Meticulous field work followed by gentle vinification and extended barrel and bottle aging are the hallmarks of Saxon Brown wines, which are made to be elegant and ageworthy. The only exception is the Saxon Brown Semillon which is made to be enjoyed in its youth when it is both lively and rich in lush fruit flavors.

Vineyards:
Casa Santinamaria, 16 acres, Sonoma Valley. 100 year old vines. Yield: 1/2 ton/acre.
Varietals:
Zinfandel, Semillon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Syrah Rosé

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

  Best Books of the Year

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
