Winemaker and owner, Joe Semansky, Jr., started making wine as a hobby approximately 10 years ago when he created his first gold medal winner – “Muscat”. Joe was a professional horse trainer and traveled the country showing his and his clients’ horses, while making wine to enjoy during their travels. It was during this time people began suggesting to Joe this should be more than a hobby and he pursued this as a new and exciting career.

Joe spent the next 4 years researching and developing new wines and designing his winery, which includes a tasting area and production area on the premises. During this development period, he continued to enter many amateur wine making competitions winning many gold, silver and bronze medals, which made him confident in pursuing his dream.

Construction of the winery started in the Fall of 2007 and was completed and opened February 7, 2009. The first bottle of wine sold was g spot©, which is a Riesling wine enhanced with a bit of Granny Smith apple. To date, this gold medal winner is still the top selling wine at Red Horse Winery.

In 2010, the Blackberry wine won concordance gold medal for “Best of Show” fruit wine in the Ohio State Wine Competition. In 2011 the Blackberry wine won "Double Gold" at the FingerLakes International Wine Competition. Unanimous Choice won a gold medal, the Joe Wine also won Gold medals as did the "4-Play" wine. Niagara was awarded a silver medal and bronze medals were awarded for Pink Catawba in the Ohio Wine competition. This competition is open to all of the Ohio commercial wineries. Red Horse Winery captured 2 of the 16 gold medals awarded to Ohio wineries in 2010.
The "Joe Wine" in 2011 not only won a Gold Medal in the Ohio Wine competition, it also won the "Ohio Quality Wine Award".

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
