Michaud Vineyard is a family owned partnership, with Carol Hastings Michaud and Michael Michaud as co-proprietors. Their first vintage was 1997, but Michael and Carol are no strangers to the wine business.

After earning a BS in Chemistry and moving on to the enology and viticulture department at U.C. Davis, Michael got his feet (and most of the rest of him) wet via 19 years experience in winegrowing and winemaking at Chalone Vineyard and on his estate near the Chalone Vineyard ranch. In January of 1998, he left Chalone to pursue the further development of the family-owned vineyard full-time.

Michael has established a long track record of critically acclaimed wines, beginning with the wines he made while winemaker at Chalone Vineyard. His own Michaud Vineyard label has continued to receive impressive scores and excellent reviews from some of the most well respected wine critics. His 1st release was a 1997 estate grown Chardonnay and since then he has expanded his label to include a Pinot Noir, a Syrah, a Sangiovese and a Pinot Blanc. All varieties are 100% estate grown with Michael farming the land, harvesting the grapes and producing world-class wines.

Carol Hastings Michaud, Michael's wife and co-proprietor of Michaud Vineyard, has been selling and marketing wines since 1984. She is currently a partner and Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Chambers and Chambers, a distributor of ultra premium imported and domestic wines in California and Hawaii.

Produced in very small quantities, Michaud wines are made in a style that reflects both the mineral characters of the soil and the dynamic climate. The Chardonnay expresses ripe fruit characters of apricot, nectarine and peach while the Pinot Blanc has aromas and flavors of tangerine, honey and crème brulee. The Pinot Noir suggests black cherry, blackberry and black currant. The Sangiovese is reminiscent of cranberries and pomegranates. The Syrah has flavors and aromas similar to black cherries, blueberries, black raspberries and a bit of black pepper. The fruit flavors are complemented by subtle spiciness and nuances of oak from the 3-year air-dried French oak barrels in which the wines are fermented and aged. Above all, the wines retain a balance with refreshing acidity, a satisfying weight and texture in the mouth, multiple layers of flavor and a long elegant finish.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
