Where does the vineyard name come from, well that's easy, as its named after Marin Wolgamott, who at the age of 6 when the vineyard was developed, was involved from the get go. She was involved in the surveying, picking rocks, placing grow tubes, and... well the list goes on; as this was an all out family work effort, up to the grandparents on both sides.

The vineyard is planted on a slope averaging 7% with a soil type identified as the
Nacimiento Soil Series. The first representative soil layer is comprised of dark brown, calcareous silty clay loam followed by these calcareous shale and Rocks, and More Rocks, then a layer of weathered sandstone. Some of these rocks take on weird formations, as if water ran through them. Picking up rocks was a daily chore, as truckloads of rocks were removed prior to planting.

Syrah was chosen because of its growing character to the Southern Rhone
and Australian Shiraz growing regions of warm climates, which the Lockwood Valley of Southern Monterey County delivers.

In the Spring of 2007, one acre was grafted over to Viognier with it's first harvest
in the Fall of 2008. In the Spring of 2009, another 1 1/4 acres were grafted to Viognier.

In June of 2009, Marin's Vineyard was granted it's own Winery License and
will be making its own wines with the help of its many winemaking friends.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
