La Dolce Vita Vineyard is located in the Northern Willamette Valley in Northwestern Oregon. Founded by Brent and Mary Freeman, the first block of Pinot Gris was established in the spring of 1994.

The vineyard faces southeast and south in a protected swale, shielded from the region's cooler winds flowing from southwest through north. The dominant soil type is Melbourne, rich in iron and clay, and relatively acidic. These components contribute fruitiness, softness and raciness to the wine.

Both blocks are cropped to no more than 2 tons per acre. The Pinot Gris is fermented in steel to retain its fruit forward balance. Our Pinot Noir is aged in French oak (30% new) for 18 months before bottling.

We produced 350 cases of 2005 Pinot Gris. The wine shows a fruit-driven aroma and flavor. Lovely tropical fruit aromas lead to flavors of lemons, hints of honey, and appealing lime on the finish with a acidic back bone as a base. The wine is dry with less than 1% residual sugar.

Our 2004 Pinot Noir is a well-balanced wine with black cherry and strawberry that turns supple and finishes with light tannins and a hint of toast. We produced only 328 cases of this vintage.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
