Humanitas is a unique winery with a very compelling story. Simply we make wine, sell it, and give the profits to charity!
Specifically, the profits go to find solutions to three very primary issues -- hunger, affordable housing and education -- and we've chosen Feeding America (an umbrella for local Food Banks) and Habitat for Humanity, however, we try to support whatever charity best addresses these issues community by community.
The origins of the name 'Humanitas' stem back to a trip to Florence, Italy. On one of the many famous carved doors in the city, there is a carving of two monks handing out food. Above the picture is the word 'Charitas'. The word resonated with us, not only for its message, but for the use of Latin, a language that seems to speak to the world without association to any one country. 'Humanitas' is the Latin word for 'philanthropy', 'human nature', and 'character' and embraces all that is the company -- making great wines of character and donating the profits to philanthropic causes.
