Hogg Hollow Winery is Pope County's first winery, surrounded by the scenic hills of the Shawnee National Forest and centered in the Shawnee Hills AVA.
We are located just off highway 145 near Glendale, between Dixon Springs and Eddyville. While visiting us you are just minutes away from Lake Glendale, Millstone Bluff, Bell Smith Springs, War Bluff Valley Sanctuary, and Garden of the Gods. The area also offers hiking, biking, camping, fishing, horse riding, bird watching, canoeing, swimming, or just wondering through the forest.
Hogg Hollow Winery is a small family owned and operated vineyard and winery, now with 4 generations of Hogg's involved.
In the Spring of 2004 we planted Norton grapes on our son Jeremy's place near Glendale. That winter we bought the place next to the vineyard, and started retrofitting the garage to use for wine making.
Spring of 2005 we planted Chambourcin and opened the winery in October.
We offer 11 wines. Our dry's are Norton, Chambourcin, Seyval, and Vidal. Our off-dry's are Villard Blanc and Vintners Choice (a blend of Norton and Chambourcin). Our sweet's are Blush, Hogg Wild (a blend of Blackberries, Blue Berries, Chambourcin, and Seyval), Heavenly White (similar to a sweet Riesling), Shelby Rose (a Rose' of Chambourcin and Norton), and Rylee Red (a sweet blend of Chambourcin and Norton).
All of our grapes are delivered to us fresh from Southern Illinois growers. The family and friends show up and we crush and start the fermentation. When the wine is ready we call in the family and friends again and we bottle and label.

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
