Lawrence Herder grew up in southern California and at age 14 started making wine. After a career in L.A. as a food broker he decided he wanted to turn his love for wine into a profession. He graduated in 1996 from Fresno State University earning his degree in Enology (Science of Winemaking) and minor in Viticulture (Grape Growing). Upon graduation Lawrence worked in Sonoma at B.R. Cohn winery under the watchful eye of Merry Edwards. It wasn’t long after he started his own winery (Herder Vineyards) in Paso Robles. After seven years of winemaking in Paso Robles Lawrence and Sharon decided to move to B.C. It was there that they came to the Similkameen Valley and found the ideal setting for their winery. While starting the winery Lawrence was the red winemaker for Jackson-Triggs (2002-2003), previous consulting includes: Golden Mile Cellars (2004), Stoneboat Vineyard (2005-2007) and Clos du Soleil (2007-2008).

Sharon grew up in Nanaimo and later moved to California to go to high school where she met Lawrence. After graduating with a merchandise marketing degree from the Fashion Institute in Los Angeles Sharon worked as a retail buyer and manager. While Lawrence was earning his degree Sharon worked for 5 years as a graphic designer. Sharon and Lawrence have three Children and will be celebrating their 20 year wedding anniversary this June. Sharon is the tasting room hostess from May - October, Website development and new found twitter fanatic.

Initially Herder secured contracts for small quantities of premium grapes from a variety of growers in the Similkameen Valley and Okanagan Valley appellations. They continue to work closely with the Bellamay Vineyard, K-Vista Vineyard and Osoyoos Lake Bench Vineyard. The Keremeos estate consists of 14 acres (5.6 hectares) and is planted on south sloping fans of rocky soil. Grapes planted are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay and Viognier.

In 2008 the new Herder facility was completed just in time for the 2008 harvest. From the crush pad there are breathtaking valley views and is an inspiring location to make wine. Lawrence is dedicated in producing the highest quality wines and brought in state of the art equipment.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
