Hartwood winery opened in the spring of 1989 in the rural community of Hartwood, Virginia. Hartwood is an area long known for its heavy deer population. Hart is the Old English word for deer, and according to local legend is the basis for the area's name; and in turn the winery's logo.

Owner JIM LIVINGSTON, his wife BEVERLY and their partner DAVE BARBER, are the nucleus of Hartwood Winery. Jim and Beverly make the wines and manage the vineyard; while Dave, a wine educator, lends his expertise to tasting, special functions and Winemaker's Dinners. Jim has been involved with Virginia wine since 1975. He established, with the help of family and friends, the first Stafford County commercial vineyard in 1981 and farm winery in 1989.

Hartwood Winery is pleased to announce that Jennifer Leibowitz will be working our tasting room and festivals. She has worked with us for the past year, learning a variety of duties from pruning the vines and harvesting the grapes, to bottling the wine. The goal is for her to learn and understand the entire business from start to finish. Jennifer received degrees in Business Administration and Dance from Mary Washington College. She is also a member of Dance Matrix, a local dance troupe centered in Fredericksburg. Jennifer as been married for 16 years, and lives in Stafford County with her husband Jeff and their two children.

Hartwood winery's award winning wines are clear evidence of the potential embodied in Virginia wines in our rapidly maturing wine industry. Hartwood Winery continues to build on its solid foundation by providing excellent wines in a warm, friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy.

Hartwood Winery's wines are available at the winery and at selected outlets, primarily in the Fredericksburg area. Hartwood participates in many regional festivals throughout the commonwealth and also hosts special functions throughout the year. These include Open Houses, Barrel tasting, Mid-Winter and Mid-Summer Mini Fests, and Dinners at the winery. Click on Upcoming events for details of the next event.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
