Grovedale Farm has been in our family since 1812. Founded by Charles and Ellen Welles, the farm was used primarily to raise cattle. The original name of the farm was Grovedale because it is said that the people of Wyalusing used to come to the area to have their picnics, in the grove or the dale. Construction, of what is now known as the Big Red House, began in 1812 and was finished in 1822. As the family grew, they added on to the house, doubling its size. Around 1900, the family mysteriously abandoned the house, leaving clothes in the closets, as well as food on the table and in the pantry. As if to leave in a significant hurry. The building sat abandoned for eighty years, but ownership never left the family. It was remodeled in 1980 by Dean and Kay Welles Homer, who took pride in restoring it to its original splendor. It is now on the National Historic Registry and tours are offered regularly.

Jeff and Kim Homer moved onto the property and used the farmland to plant a vineyard. The grape vines have been planted since 2005 and the tasting room opened in September of 2008. Grovedale Winery & Vineyard is a winery rooted in heritage and tradition. We are very proud to offer our quests a unique wine tasting experience.

Grovedale Winery and Vineyards is a producer of premium wines grown in our eight acres of vineyards and from the surrounding area. At Grovedale, we focus on what the vineyard does best, growing Riesling and Minnesota French hybrid varieties such as Frontenac Gris and St. Pepin, on vines managed for low yield and maximum fruit intensity. Our wines are carefully crafted by a skilled winemaker in small lots, ensuring every single bottle of Grovedale wine boasts exceptional quality and flavor. Many of our wines are rare and hard to find, but they are even harder to forget. We look forward to welcoming you to Grovedale Winery.

We have 8 acres of vineyards that surround our winery and tasting room. The vineyard has 11 different varieties of red and white wine grapes. Our original vineyard was planted in 2005 with mostly Minnesota French-American hybrid varieties. Since then we have planted some Vinifera and other hybrid grapes. The wine grapes we grow include: Riesling, Chardonnay, Vidal, Frontenac, Frontenac Gris, Louise Swenson, St. Croix, St. Pepin, Marquette, Lando Noir, and Lacrosse. We are making some delicious and unique, award winning wines from them that are unique to our Endless Mountains territory.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
