Broad Run Vineyards has followed the classic journey of Old World family wineries. We have planted the noble vinifera vines of Europe, toiled in the vineyards and given precedence to the nurturing of high quality grapes that yield well balanced, fine wines in our estate winery.

Our journey began as an experiment in 1983 when we planted 20 varieties on our 15-acre homesite to find out what would grow well in Kentucky-- and make good wine. To our delight and surprise all but a few varieties weathered the first five years and produced excellent wines.

Spurred on by friends and encouraged by wine industry experts we went commercial in 1992. That first vintage was released in 1994.

Realizing the need to expand the vineyard, we purchased a 72 acre farm across beautiful Broad Run Creek and planted 25 more acres of vines.

For a time, the winery remained on the original homesite and our tasting room was housed in the old farm house on the new property. In 2003 we began construction of our new 8000 square foot winery and tasting room. Our 2004 vintage was the first to be made in the new facility.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
