Production: Very Small Production

Black Cordon Vineyards and Sixteen by Twenty Wines are two separate labels produced by David and Karen Dunphy of Napa Valley California. We are a very small producer of Artisan, Handcrafted wines. From vineyard to bottle we are intimately involved in every facet of making our wines. We are of course fortunate to have one of the top world class winemakers, Paul Hobbs, leading the way as our consultant winemaker. The wines are made by Paul at his own winery so there is never a question of lacking in the facility and winemaking processes. We team with Paul during all steps of the winemaking and aging process just as Paul teams with us and our vineyard team on all decisions involving the growing of the grapes. It’s proving to be a great relationship.

Sixteen by Twenty Wines are intended to prove possible, and to position themselves as, wines of pedigree, character, quality and complexity at a relatively reasonable price to the consumer. We are hearing that these wines “Over Deliver For The Price” so I think it is fair to say that they are succeeding in our intent.

Black Cordon Vineyards wines are intended to serve as an opportunity for us to even further select through our small production and to produce a wine that has an added dimension of character. The price will be a bit higher but it is still our intention to keep these wines at a reasonable price in relation to their peers in the market.

Neither label is a “second label” or “reserve” wine. Both wine labels have their own identity so that we are free to find our own style for these wines. This is important because we are not just barrel selecting. We are identifying blocks in vineyards, rows in blocks, barrel types to fit the fruit source, and many more details that will benefit either the 16x20 wine or the BCV wine. We are therefore able to make each one of these labels the best they can be, and a great value at their price point, year in and year out.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
