Athena Vineyards was established in 2002 by three Nurses. We enjoy healthy lifestyles, working in the vineyard and the finer things in life. Our interest in winemaking led to the construction of our winery in 2005. Athena has become the first commercial vineyard and winery in Northumberland County, Virginia. Visit our tasting room and share our warm hospitality in a beautiful vineyard setting. Our vineyards overlook the Great Wicomico River with 15 acres of over a 20 varieties of grapes. Not far from the Chesapeake Bay, we embrace the lifestyle of the area - crabs, rockfish and oysters are common in the region.

Our philosophy of growing grapes and making wine in an environmentally safe manner is an important responsibility to land stewardship and the long-term relationship with our customers, our neighbors and the world. We strive to be environmentally friendly, economically sound and socially responsible with all our winery and viticulture practices.

Our grapes are hand picked at the peak of ripeness. Quality control is essential to ensure that only the finest grapes are used for winemaking. After all - you can't make great wine without great grapes

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
