Waldschütz Riesling Ried Gaisberg 1ÖTW from Kamptal D.A.C. is a poised, medium-bodied white of real precision and depth, grown on the celebrated granite and schist soils of the Gaisberg, one of Kamptal's most revered first-growth vineyard sites, offering an intricate nose of fresh star anise, candied clementine peel, white blossom, and a delicate thread of acacia honey, with ripe white plum quietly emerging in the background. The palate is juicy and tightly structured, with bright yellow stone fruit, lively acidity, and a pronounced saline, stony minerality that gives the finish both focus and wonderful length. Serve it just below room temperature and allow it to develop with confidence through 2036, as the Gaisberg terroir is known to reward patient cellaring. Winemaker Markus Waldschütz, who honed his craft at the legendary California winery Au Bon Climat before taking over cellar responsibilities in 2012, brings an internationally informed yet firmly terroir-rooted sensibility to this family estate that has been farming the Straßertal valley since 1871. The designation 1ÖTW on the label signifies that this wine comes from one of Austria's officially classified premier cru vineyards, a rigorous recognition that places Ried Gaisberg among the country's most distinguished wine-growing sites.

Riesling food pairings: pan-seared trout with a brown butter and almond crust, roasted pork loin with a Riesling and apple reduction, aged Comté with crusty bread and honeycomb.
