Blending Syrah with the Portuguese Tinta Roriz makes for a wine with lush dark fruit character and a spicy aftertaste. It's cold-soaked in steel vats to retain freshness. Look for notes of blueberry, cassis, peperoncino and truffles and serve tonight with a pasta bolognese or black-bean chili.[Asia Wine Trophy did not include a tasting note.] (Asia Wine Trophy,2023) MINE: Ink-black blueberry and cassis aromas mingle with cracked-pepper spice and a hint of fresh truffle earth. Crisp mid-palate lift frames a silky ribbon of dark fruit before a gentle chili-pepper warmth emerges. Pancetta-studded penne arrabbiata or chipotle black-bean empanadas will make great table companions. NEW: Tinta Roriz is the Portuguese name for Spain's Tempranillo. Here it teams up with Syrah in a juicy, dark-fruited red. Black cherry and violet are front and centre. It's a terrific bargain. Portugal and Spain sharing a grape under two names is the most neighbourly thing in wine. Lamb meatballs in tomato sauce make a cozy weeknight dinner with it.

Syrah food pairings: lamb chops from the grill, roast chicken, pasta Bolognese.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
