Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery's Meritage from Niagara Lakeshore is an elegant, medium-bodied red wine blending Bordeaux varietals with notes of blackcurrant, wild berry, cedarwood and dried herbs. This dry wine displays well-integrated tannins and impressive structure that will continue to develop over the next five years. Serve it at room temperature with herb-crusted prime rib as the wine's savory character complements the roasted meat, or pair it with grilled portobello mushroom burgers where the wine's earthy depth enhances the umami flavors. Winemaker Paul Harber crafts this Bordeaux-style blend using sustainable and organic practices on the estate's Bench-designated vineyards, which benefit from the moderating influence of Lake Ontario. Ravine Vineyard operates from a beautifully restored 1867 Victorian farmhouse and has been certified organic since 2008, making it one of Ontario's pioneering sustainable wineries. This food-friendly Meritage represents excellent value from one of Niagara's most environmentally conscious producers and will cellar gracefully through 2030.

Meritage food pairings: roast beef dinner, turkey, ribs and burgers.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
