Quercecchio Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. from Tuscany is a medium-bodied 100% Sangiovese fermented in stainless steel and aged in a combination of French and Slavonian oak. The 2021 vintage is turning heads across Montalcino for wines that are approachable now yet built to go the distance. On the nose it's precise and lifted, with tobacco leaf and dark berries. The palate is focused, with tart cranberry, graphite, and a long, tapered finish with firm, ripe tannins and the kind of bright acidity that makes every food pairing feel made to order. Maria Grazia Salvioni oversees winemaking at this fifth-generation family estate whose history stretches back to the late 14th century, when the property was a convent farm belonging to the Olivetan Benedictine monks of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, and original carved stone ideographs from the monastery still mark the buildings today. Cellar it through 2040 and pull the cork with veal piccata, where the wine's bright acidity and firm tannins cut through the richness of the sauce, or try it with grilled steak and rosemary for a Tuscan pairing that needs nothing else.

Brunello di Montalcino food pairings: hard cheese, veal piccata, grilled steak, roast leg of lamb.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
