Poggio San Polo Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C. is a medium-bodied, extra-dry Sangiovese from a sustainably farmed 52-acre estate perched at 400 metres above sea level in the southeastern corner of Montalcino, overlooking the Sant'Antimo Valley and Mount Amiata. The nose is fresh and lifted with dried cherry, wild strawberry, and a flick of rose petal, with savoury herbs and a mineral thread on the palate, firm but polished tannins, and bright acidity on the finish. Serve it just below room temperature and drink it through 2030. Winemaker Riccardo Fratton joined the estate in 2015 after a long tenure at Bertani, and has since overseen the estate's organic certification in 2017. The property was purchased in 2007 by Marilisa Allegrini of the Allegrini family of Valpolicella, and their track record with premium Italian reds shows clearly in how this wine is made and cellared.

Rosso Di Montalcino food pairings: braised beef short ribs with rosemary and red wine, wild boar ragù with pappardelle, veal osso buco with gremolata.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
