A powerful, complex spirit that greets you with aromas of caramel, dried fruit, and toasted oak, layered with spice, vanilla, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, rich, and warming, with flavors of toffee, orange peel, baking spice, and a touch of leather, all carried by its bold 51.4% alcohol. The texture is velvety yet assertive, finishing long and layered. Serve it neat to appreciate its intensity, or with a splash of water to open up its intricate aromas. Fascinating fact: Created in 1985 by master blender Tadashi Sakuma, this whisky combines over 100 different malt and grain whiskies, which are re-casked to “marry” before bottling—a technique that adds remarkable depth and harmony. With its strength and concentration, it will keep beautifully for many years once opened if stored properly.

From The Barrel Whisky food pairings: square of dark chocolate, where its cocoa and spice notes create a luxurious match. Or sip it alongside a plate of charcuterie, where its richness and heat cut through savory flavors.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
