Reviews and Ratings

Alana L rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Sunday afternoon apéro mood: This delicious 2019 Axle Chenin Blanc W.O. Darling from yesterday’s South African wine tasting with Les Cavistes. Lemon in colour with medium intensity primary aromas and flavours of honeysuckle, lemon, pear and secondary aromas of vanilla from the oak. It’s youthful, dry, with medium acidity, alcohol, body and finish. The grapes (from old dryland bushvines) are basket pressed and left undisturbed in oak barrels for 9 months. Alex Milner from Natte Valleij Wines makes wines with as little ‘interference’ as possible (‘grapes are picked by hand, bottled by hand, corked by hand labeled by hand and most defiantly drunk by hand’) and made this wine for his wife who loves Chenin Blanc. He describes it as ‘ripe pear and spice, balanced by a beautiful minerality, has you thinking of the start of a Quentin Tarantino movie!’. Love – the wine and the quote! We had it with smoked salmon gravlax as part of the wine tasting but would also be amazing with a cheese platter or salmon in a rich cream sauce. Cheers!

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
