Massaya's Terrasses de Baalbeck is a commanding, full-bodied Rhône-style blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grown at over 1,000 metres above sea level in the foothills of Mount Lebanon, where chalky clay soils and dramatic day-to-night temperature swings give this wine its remarkable depth and structural grip. The nose is brooding and complex, with notes of crushed dark fruit, garrigue, iron-tinged earth, and a beguiling ribbon of wood smoke that drifts through to the long, emphatically dry finish. Aged for over 22 months in large oak foudres and bottled without fining or filtration, this is a wine of serious intent that will reward cellaring through 2030. Winemaker Sami Ghosn oversees production at this storied estate, which he and his brother Ramzi rebuilt from ruins after Lebanon's civil war, forging a remarkable partnership with the Brunier family of Le Vieux Télégraphe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Dominique Hébrard, formerly of Château Cheval Blanc. Serve it at room temperature.

Food pairings: herb-crusted rack of venison with red wine reduction, slow-roasted leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary, aged hard cheese with fig jam and walnuts.
