Falconhead Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc opens with vibrant aromas of grapefruit, passionfruit, green apple, and fresh basil with hints of wet stone minerality. Dry and medium-bodied with bright, mouth-watering acidity and fine persistence, it dances across the palate with zesty citrus and tropical fruit before closing with a crisp, saline finish. Serve it well chilled through 2028. Hamish Binns and Luke Miller, the skilled winemaking team at The Wine Portfolio with a combined 35 years of experience at the company, craft this wine from fruit harvested in both the Awatere and Wairau valleys of Marlborough, transported to their Katikati winery for fermentation in stainless steel tanks using select yeasts that contribute to the wine's aromatic complexity. Named for the karearea or New Zealand falcon that was housed and trained at the Riverview vineyard in Hawke's Bay as part of the estate's sustainability programme, this endangered bird of prey is the only one endemic to New Zealand and graces the country's twenty-dollar bill. Pair this classic expression with fresh oysters on the half shell where the wine's crisp acidity complements the briny, mineral flavors, or enjoy it with grilled white fish topped with lemon and herbs as the zesty character enhances the delicate, citrus-kissed flavors.

Sauvignon Blanc food pairings: fresh oysters on the half shell, grilled white fish with lemon and herbs, goat cheese salad.
