Esterházy Grosshoflein Grüner Veltliner is a light to medium-bodied, extra-dry white from organic estate vineyards in Grosshöflein on the southern slope of the Leithaberg in Burgenland, fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel and rested on the fine lees for added texture and weight. The nose shows yellow apple, ripe pear, a whisper of fresh ginger, and a subtle mineral thread, with a palate of crisp lemon curd, elegant acidity, and a characteristic white pepper lift on the clean finish. Serve it well chilled and drink it through 2030. The House of Esterházy has been making wine in Burgenland since at least 1758, when formal cellar records first began, though the family's connection to the land stretches back to the 13th century. Their state-of-the-art winery near Eisenstadt, opened in 2006, is one of Austria's most technically advanced cellars and helped usher in a new era of quality for the estate.
