Reviews and Ratings

Domeniile Cuza from Moldova is a compelling and distinctive red blend of 80% Saperavi and 20% Feteasca Neagra, two ancient indigenous grape varieties that together produce a wine of real character and depth, all grown on the estate, hand-harvested and matured for two years in large oak casks. Deep and brooding in the glass, it reveals a nose of dark mulberry, dried mission fig and a suggestion of smoked meat, giving way on the palate to flavours of bitter cocoa, star anise and a streak of iron-tinged earth, all underpinned by firm, chewy tannins and a gripping, persistent finish. It is bone dry and full-bodied, best served just below room temperature, and will drink well through 2028. Domeniile Cuza is one of the Republic of Moldova's oldest wineries, a fascinating piece of Eastern European wine history that is only now beginning to attract the international attention it deserves, as adventurous wine lovers discover the remarkable quality that this under-the-radar region can produce at very accessible prices. Serve it with a hearty beef and root vegetable stew slow-cooked with red wine and bay leaf, where the wine's dark fruit and earthy backbone will weave seamlessly into the dish's depth and richness, or pair it with a charcuterie board of cured meats and aged hard cheeses, letting its firm tannins and smoky undertones stand up magnificently to the bold, salty flavours. - Community Wine Reviews

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
