Domaine L'Espiegle Gamma-Rays from Dunham, Quebec is a lively, light-to-medium-bodied red with an irresistible freshness that perfectly captures the character of two complementary grapes. Grapes from the Selby parcel, which began producing in 2024, are included in this blend for the first time, adding a sunnier, riper dimension that brings generosity and depth to the wine. On the nose, cooked cherry, bramble preserve, a wisp of woodsmoke, and warm loamy soil draw you in, while the palate delivers bright, mouthwatering acidity, supple texture, and a satisfyingly earthy, fruit-driven finish. Winemaker Zaché Hall, who earned his oenology diploma and spent years working in France and California before returning to his childhood home in Dunham, founded L'Espiegle in 2018 with a mission to make wines that honestly reflect Quebec terroir while leaving the smallest ecological footprint possible. Since the alcohol comes in under 13%, it is worth noting this is a refreshingly light wine at just 12%, making it an ideal candidate for the table rather than the cellar. Serve it chilled alongside a charcuterie board with duck rillettes and cornichons, where the wine's earthy brightness cuts through the richness of the spread, or try it with a mushroom and lentil ragout over polenta, a pairing that mirrors the wine's grounded, rustic soul. Drink now through 2028.
