Croft Douro D.O.P. from Portugal’s legendary house of Croft reveals a nose of dark plum and ripe cherry underscored by a whisper of pepper and graphite that adds savoury intrigue. On the palate this dry, medium- to full-bodied red carries firm structure and polished grip, with flavours of black fruit and subtle bittersweet chocolate driving to a lingering, elegant finish; its 13% alcohol and refined tannins make it ideal for enjoying now or cellaring for years to come. Made under the guidance of winemaker David Guimaraens, who oversees quality across the historic Croft portfolio dating back to 1588—one of the oldest port and Douro wine producers in the world—this wine reflects centuries of expertise while standing out for its balance and poise. The Douro Valley’s sun-baked slopes and schist soils give this wine depth and a mineral backbone that marries beautifully with food, and its pedigree has helped elevate Croft’s reputation beyond fortified styles into serious table wines. Serve this wine at just below room temperature to let its layered fruit and savoury notes sing.

Food pairings: Grilled flank steak with chimichurri, roasted portobello mushrooms with herbed polenta, tomato-braised lamb shanks, aged Manchego with quince paste.
