Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Conde de Cristobal Ribera del Duero Crianza 2013 $27:
12-16 months in American/French/Russian oak (similar to French oak it is firm, but more subtle and doesn't crowd out fruit).
Typical blend of Tempranillo and Bordelais varietals (10% Cab Sauv and 10% Merlot).
Grown at a pretty lofty altitude with cold weather, for that region.
There is some nice earthiness - less supple and more aggressive than the Rioja.
Marked florality, loamy earth. Wild berry aromas. Lots of black and blue fruit to the palate. Rustic mouthfeel, but showing off its youthful vigour.
A vibrant, structured wine that would impress on any wine list.  Ribera has a caché with its own cult followings. An educated somm would have no trouble explaining what this wine delivers.
Coming from a producer that handled this wine all by themselves (no co-ops). From the vineyard to the marketing abroad, they ensure their wine's integrity by managing it all the way to market.  The wine represents exactly what they intended.  Ribera is 120 km long - differentiating significantly.  Does freshness, sets it apart from other bulky Riberas? This wine almost feels declassified - it could be reserva, given the time, but that isn't the style they were seeking.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
