Clos du Soleil Winemaker's Series Syrah from British Columbia's dramatic Similkameen Valley is a beautifully composed, full-bodied red that opens with an intoxicating perfume of dried wildflowers, aromatic scrubland, and a brooding core of dark purple fruit. On the palate, crushed slate, iron-tinged earth, and smoky pencil shavings weave through layers of concentrated blueberry and black plum, framed by polished tannins and a finish of impressive length and precision. Winemaker, General Manager and co-owner Michael Clark, originally trained in Theoretical Physics before spending 14 years as an investment manager in Europe, turned his lifelong obsession with wine into his vocation and now leads the winery with a philosophy of minimal-intervention winemaking anchored in biodynamic viticulture. The vineyard is certified organic and is working towards full biodynamic certification, with all wines vegan friendly. The 2022 vintage is being hailed by many critics as one of the finest on record for Clos du Soleil, with winemaker Clark noting exceptional concentration, freshness, and acidity across all varieties. Serve at slightly below room temperature and cellar with confidence through 2034. Try it alongside braised short ribs with roasted garlic and thyme, where the wine's stony depth and dark fruit find a natural anchor, or serve it with a herbed rack of lamb, a pairing that lets the Similkameen's signature savoury character truly sing.

Syrah food pairings: braised short ribs with roasted garlic and thyme, herbed rack of lamb.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
