Leaps out of the glass, eager to engage your senses. Full-bodied and supple, with complex layers of black brooding fruit and a savory, meaty, juicy middle note on the palate. Long finish. Leave this baby in the cellar for at least another two years please. Decant 1-2 hours.

Cabernet food pairings: grilled steaks.

Reviews and Ratings

Darlene Myers - CAPS Student rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Wow, that's what my friend and I both said when we enjoyed this wine recently. Gorgeous, rich and supple - the aromatics on this wine had us swooning. And the flavors didn't disappoint either. Rich dark fruits, blackberry, a hint of sage on both the nose and the palate, and toasty oak. The tannins were balanced and it had a beautiful lingering finish. We enjoyed this wine with some great Canadian beef, but it's delicious all by itself as well. A great Canadian wine.
Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

The 2010 Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Athene is composed of 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon that were co-fermented (an uncommon practice for fine wines) and then aged in French and American oaks (60/40% - 40% new) for 18 months before bottling. The wine has succulent bouquet composed of black currant, blackberry, blueberry, cedar, leather and toasted vanilla on the nose and figs, black currant, leather, vanilla and oak on the palate. It is a full bodied, extra-dry, integrated wine; BALANCED with fresh acidity, dusty/refined tannins and a long and silky finish. This is a sipper that should be enjoyed uninterrupted; drink now till 2020++ (cork enclosure). My impression: BEAUTIFUL to DIVINE, 92-93 pts – recommended for its quality. Truly one of Canada's benchmark red wines! This full-bodied Okanagan red is a blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that offers up black fruit and toasty oak aromas. Great cellar candidate. - Community Wine Reviews
