Reviews and Ratings

Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Bodegas Bula is located in Northeast Spain between Barcelona and Tarragone. It falls in the Montsant D.O. (Denominación de Origen), a relatively new appellation that was granted its status in 2001. Montsant D.O. is shaped like a horseshoe, surrounds the Priorat wine region on 3 sides but its soils are said to be more complex.
This red wine is made of 40% Mazuelo (local name for Carignan), 40% Garnacha and
20% Syrah.
These grapes come from vines that are on average 30 years old, are hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel for 15 days, and are aged for 4 months in both French and American oak barrells prior to bottling.
In the glass, it is a deep cherry color with intense purple hues, 'almost' opaque with slow dense and inky legs.
The nose is complex, spicy and vivacious with meaty aromas, hints of dried cranberry and cherry, kirsh, English black licorice, marzapan and slight underbush.
The mouth is ample, souple, warm, with generous tannins and lively acidity. It is dry, layered with earthy elements, black cherry flesh and candied peel. Expansive and long finish leaves you with a smoky pipe Tobacco aftertaste.
This is a wine to always have on hand! Excellent quality at a fantastic price!
Pair this beauty with robust and meaty pasta ragus, orange and duck paella or spicy lamb chops of the BBQ with warm herby potato salad!
Yummmmm!
Santé!
