This Pinotage is sourced from select dryland bush vines that produce notably intense, concentrated fruit. The wine is ripe, with big red and black fruit flavours, baking spice and tobacco. Pair it with beef curry or a vegan version of the classic South African casserole, bobotie. - LCBO MINE: The number on Boschendal's label marks 1685, the year the estate's lands were first granted, and this Pinotage draws on dryland bush vines that have weathered the seasons ever since. Dark plum and black currant bring real concentration. Firm tannin gives it a bold, structured feel. A note of clove turns up at the very last. Serve it with roast venison or partridge. NEW: That number stamped on the label commemorates the original land grant, one of South Africa's oldest wine properties still in operation. Black cherry and a flicker of iron greet you first, warm cedar close by. Full and juicy, the finish carries considerable length for the price. Try it with game sausage cassoulet or roast venison.
