Benguela Cove Syrah from Walker Bay is a refined, aromatic red wine showcasing notes of blackcurrant, ripe fig, and dried thyme with hints of cracked black pepper and mineral graphite. It's dry and medium to full-bodied with fine tannins and bright acidity that carries through to a lengthy, saline-tinged finish. Serve it at room temperature with braised venison as the wine's savory character and peppery spice will complement the rich game beautifully, or pair it with roasted lamb shoulder where the wine's herbal notes and structured elegance will enhance the tender meat. Cellarmaster Johann Fourie crafts this wine at the estate owned by entrepreneur Penny Streeter OBE, where the vineyards sit just 2.7 meters above sea level along a 2.6-kilometer stretch of ocean-facing slopes. The estate has earned remarkable recognition with four consecutive years of receiving two or more five-star ratings in Platter's South African Wine Guide, and the cool maritime climate from the Atlantic creates one of South Africa's most distinctive terroirs. This wine drinks beautifully now or can cellar for 3-5 years to develop additional complexity.

Syrah food pairings: braised venison, roasted lamb shoulder, aged gouda cheese.
