The color is bright ruby red with fresh, sweet and fruity aromas of blackberry and ripe cherry: floral and spicy notes of vanilla, tobacco and licorice are also evident. The structure is ample, concentrated and harmonious, with good acidity; beautiful final persistence that gives pleasantness to the drink. Ideal pairing with game and medium-aged cheeses. The considerable structure allows it to age fairly well. (Aldo Fiordelli - Senior Editor,jamessuckling.com) MINE: Castello Banfi purchased 4,500 hectares around Montalcino in 1978 and transformed what was then a relatively obscure region into one of Italy's most celebrated wine destinations, and the Rosso di Montalcino is how they make that heritage accessible every day. Fragrant and precise on the nose with dark cherry, candied orange peel, iron-tinged earth, and warm baking spice, it flows into a juicy, structured palate of tart cranberry and graphite with a long complex finish and polished tannins. Drink it now through 2030 with wine-braised beef, turkey with gravy, chorizo tacos, or bean fajitas. NEW: Castello Banfi bought a huge stretch of land near Montalcino decades ago, helping transform the area into one of Tuscany's premier wine destinations. Black olive and a touch of iron come through first, warm cedar underneath. Polished tannins carry a long finish, structured and fresh throughout. Bring on wine-braised beef or turkey with gravy.

Rosso Di Montalcino food pairings: wine-braised beef, turkey with gravy, chorizo tacos, bean fajitas.
