So in love with Chardonnay again. I thought we had broken up permanently, but turns out if was only a minor break. Aromas of peach and toasted almond and an end-of-the-week Friday night sigh ;).

Chardonnay food pairings: white-fleshed fish, mild sausage, chicken salads.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Bachelder wines overdeliver on quality and price. Bachelder is the pioneer that proves intellectual wine can also be easy to drink and appreciate. It doesn't have to unapproachable. I've been a fan of his, since his Le Clos Jordanne days... But I am sure he is tired of hearing that from people.
This wine, from the Wismer block, is structured and quite big. It is sunny, though not an overdone wine. Contrasting to Burgundy, think Côte D'Or.
Medium lemon-yellow colour. Rather rich looking in the glass.
The aromas have a lot of lifted lemon, almond, honey, and pineapple.
It has great finesse and texture. This winery is very meticulous with their elevage (barrel maturation) techniques. There is some leesiness that comes through as buttered pastry. Some tension between the bigness of this wine and the freshness and acidity it retains. The fruit are a lot like the aromas. Lots of candied pineapple, fresh almond and filbert, but with a zesty lemon and jonagold apple quality.
These wines are not only a smart value for dinner, they cellar pretty well. Keep this one maybe 5 years, but it would be awesome with a lobster roll.
From the Twenty Mile Bench in the Niagara Peninsula wine region, Bachelder Wismer Vineyard #1 Wingfield Block (2013) is a cool-climate Chardonnay with ripe peach, pineapple and buttered toast on the palate. This is a brunchtime Chardonnay that would complement rich shellfish dishes, eggs Benny dishes and with enough zesty acidity to cut through the richness. - Community Wine Reviews
