Atamisque Catalpa Malbec from Tupungato, Uco Valley, Mendoza is a dry, medium to full-bodied red with an immediately seductive nose of ripe cassis, mulberry, dried fig, iris, warm cardamom, and a thread of graphite and mineral earth. On the palate it is fluid and generously textured, with round, polished tannins, bright fresh acidity, and a long, savoury finish that carries notes of espresso and leather that linger with real persistence. Serve at room temperature and enjoy from 2026 through 2034 as this wine has both the approachability and the structure to reward time. French winemaker Philippe Caraguel crafts this wine from select blocks of sustainably farmed Malbec grown at over 1,200 metres above sea level in the San José district of Tupungato, with half the wine aged for a year in seasoned barrels to build complexity while preserving the region's characteristic freshness. The estate was founded in 2002 by French couple John and Chantal Du Monceau, who fell in love with the property's dramatic Andean setting, with their first harvest following in 2007, inspired in part by Chantal's grandfather, a winemaker in Beaujolais. The winery takes its name from the capparis atamisquea, a flowering shrub native to the Uco Valley that grows wild across the estate and has lent its name to the land since the late 19th century. Pair it with tandoori chicken, where the wine's spice and earthy depth will embrace the warmth of the marinade, or try it alongside beef chimichangas with black beans and melted cheese, letting the wine's savoury plushness elevate every bite.

Malbec food pairings: Tandoori chicken, beef chimichangas.
