Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Slate or limestone on the nose.
Charcoals, smoke, spice box, and wild cherries on the palate with an herbal tone that is magnified when paired with food. Very complex structure that was tight upon opening; the elegant and silky nature comes through once decanted. 89 Points. -Rachel (ottawawinejournal.com)
Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The 2006 Leone De Castris Riserva Salice Salentino 50th Vintage, composed of 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera, is medium bodied, integrated wine with aromas of raspberry, cherry and oak. Upon opening, the wine remains quite closed and metallic for about an hour (decant between 1 to 2 hours), after which the body emerges, tannins (that are refined to tannic) settle down and the wine becomes nice and smooth with nicely balanced acidity and a medium to long finish. It should be laid down for few more years and can be cellared for another decade or so. My impression: NICE, 89 pts - recommended for tannin lovers; nice wine for good price. Tasted June/11.

Leone De Castris Riserva Salice Salentino 50Th Vintage Negroamaro 2006, D.O.C., Puglia, Italy: A pleasant country red from the dusty back roads of Italy where a large woman will ask you why you’re not having seconds of the lasagna. What, you don’t like her lasagna? Take some more. You’re too skinny, look at you! Aromas of dark red fruit and deep satisfaction. Drink: 2011-2014. 597534 13.50% XD 750 mL  $16.95 Score: 88/100. Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
