Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Dark and demure. A memorable multi-layered savoury Syrah from 1865. Deep, inky and thick viscous tears. The bouquet found here reveals blackcurrant, grilled cherries, forest floor, smoked meat, salami and gorgeous black olive compote. Flavours are enlivened with dark plum, dates and peppery earthy mushroom goodness. Full bodied with high tannins and an awesome lip smacking spice waking up the tastebuds. Dried fig compote persisting at the back. Long, big and bold. I’m still living in its lingering memory and loving it! This bold beauty will accompany slow roasted pepper-spices meats, a cigar and bold cheeses. 94 points - tasted October 23, 2018
Jon Steeves rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Tasted this uber balanced, dry, full-bodied Syrah vinified with fruit from the Vina san Pedro vineyards in the Chilean Elqui valley, located 20 km from the Pacific Ocean with it's marine influence and high minerality soils. High mouthwatering acidity, fine low-medium integrating tannins, deeply concentrated. Ripe raspberry, ripe fig, balsamic reduction notes, savoury. Pair with a medium rare rib steak. Tasted this beauty, the 2016 limited edition, in October 2018. 93 points. #greatvalue
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From the Elqui Valley, Chile, the 1865 Selected Vineyards 2016 100% Syrah was harvested by hand at the Vinas San Pedro Vineyard, which is owned by 1865 Vineyards. Aromas of blueberry, ripe plum, lavender, black olive, graphite, cigar box, black pepper and oak, give this Syrah an amazing bouquet. On the palate, ripe blueberry and plum, dried herbs, cigar box, leather, black pepper and oak. A full body with a long and silky finish, this Syrah 2016 exhibits skilled wine-making by 1865 Vineyards. Drink with food or just enjoy its own. Tasted at Chateau Laurier winemakers from Vina San Pedro’s properties 1865 Single Vineyards October 2018.
Jane Staples rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

A very distinctive 100% Syrah from Chile's Elqui Valley, where the vineyards benefit from the marine influence of Pacific Ocean. Bursting with flavour, savoury and aromatic, this opaque Syrah has pronounced smoked meat, spice and olive(both black and green) notes. The mouthwatering, full-bodied palate is rich, savoury and smooth, with lots of olive, vegetal and cured ham flavours. Soft tannins and a delicious spicy finish on this memorable Syrah. Enjoy every drop with game, roast lamb, "pichanga" or mature cheeses. Can cellar up to 8 years.
Tasted Oct. 2018 with the winemaker, Matias Cruzat.
Melanie Lloyd rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

I love this aromatic and unique Syrah from the Elqui Valley in Chile. On the nose, it is fruity with intense red berry aromas while having a whole lot of oomph to it with its almost meaty quality. Violet aromas are present as one would frequently find in Syrah, but then there’s black olives, and sweet spice, predominantly cloves. On the palate it is fresh with wonderful acidity and medium tannins. The flavours are of tart raspberry, blueberry, and sweet spice.

Wine-Food Pairing: Roasted duck in a berry sauce.

Tasted October 2018 at the Vina San Pedro wine tasting event.
