Deep, impenetrable purple-red. Intense, evolving aromatics, with some mentholated, wood-derived character to be sure, but also so much dark fruit extract and wild Mediterranean scrub-garrigue to draw attention away. Alcohol is clearly generous at 14.5% declared, but melts seamlessly into the ensemble, while dense, concentrated black fruit extract washes over the palate. A top notch BBQ wine, and sharp value at that, for those seeking big impact reds. Also scope to age/improve into the mid-'20s. Tasted March 2018. Value Rating: ***
Melanie Lloyd rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This full bodied Red is lovely, elegant and very floral. On the nose, there are dark berries, rose petals, cedar, eucalyptus leaves, and cigar box.

The tannins are structured on the palate with flavours of blueberries, cassis, espresso and just a touch of floral notes seeping through. Very enjoyable!

Natalie's Review

Château Pech Redon L'épervier 2014, La Clape, Coteaux Du Languedoc, Midi A.P., France: The 2014 vintage of the Chateau Pech Redon from southern France is a robust blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 20% Carignan grapes. The wine was aged 18 months in a blend of large barrels (foudre) and stainless steel tanks before bottling. Band-Aid on the nose (I like this) along with fleshy ripe black plums and smoke. The vineyard is planted on the uppermost part of La Clape's hill facing the Mediterranean sea in the Languedoc region. The surrounding biodiversity of aromatic herbs, plants and trees influence the taste of the wine, according to the wine's back label. Pair with game dishes, duck confit and grilled lamb with rosemary. Decant 1 hour. Drink: 2018-2023. 129965 14.50% XD 750 mL  $22.95 Score: 91/100. March 17, 2018 Best Beef Wine  Full Review
