Black cherry, black plum skin, blackberry, fresh and dried herb, spice and dried flowers. Beautifully fresh and mouthwatering. Demands another glass (or bottle). 93 points.

Lots of chocolate on the nose with some spice and cigar. Flavours of more chocolate, sour cherry and pepper. Pair with meaty dishes like lasagna...but someone bring me a chocolate cake or a bar of dark chocolate! STAT!

Pairs well with a Friday night, after a particularly hard week. Pricey at $39, but you deserve it so go for it!

Heavenly! Here we have alluring plum, anise and mocha notes calling for more and more sips. It's a smooth, sensual and delicious medium-bodied hybrid blend of Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet and Syrah. Enjoy it with roasted leg of lamb. Also, buy in 3s or more, you'll regret it if you don't ;-)

Delicious wine from Bolgheri, one of the famed DOCs that incorporates international varietals (Cab, Syrah, and Merlot) alongside traditional Sangiovese.
This one is rather understated, but it hardly seems fair to this wine as it would need so much time to open up. It was drunk at a tasting and had 0% chance of survivial.
The colour is pretty and slightly bricking red.
Aromas of cream, dried berries, pressed violets, and cranberry.
Flavours of juicy red ape, cranberry, and cassis. Some subtle mushroom amd cocoa nib too. Leathery at first. Ultrafine tannins. Worth every penny.
Have woth simple charcuterie to appreciate the wine's depth and subtlety.

Deep, inky and opaque with a beautiful bouquet. Stewed fruits, with true black and blue elements. Blackcurrant, bramble, strawberry, chocolate covered cherries and touches of vanilla cream. Deep, dark, opaque and brooding. On looks alone I am expecting a big wine and this blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet, and Syrah grapes delivers. Bolgheri is known for their Super Tuscans so no surprise there.
Aromas of cooked dark fruit - in a good way. Leather, smoke and the 18-24 months of french oak is evident. Plenty of fruit on the palate; blackberry, blueberry and black plum. Drying tannins that will smooth out in time. The wine opens up in your glass - so would benefit from decanting.
Still young - this is a wine that will improve with age. Tasted March 11, 2018.

Giddy-up! Perfect wine with barbecued red meat.
Dark garnet hue in the glass, with aromas of blueberry pie, leather and anise that carry through to a black fruit mouth and a lingering peppery finish. Full bodied with balanced tannin and acidity.

A big Italian offering.…
Presentation: A bold label reminiscent of a Gelateria and art deco movie poster (an unconventional combination)
Appearance: Deep ruby
Nose: Pronounced nose of sweet dark plums, violets, black licorice, ink and a smidge of grilled meat
Taste: Full body, high acidity, aggressive, bitter tannins, dark fruit (blackberries, plums, cherries), ink, and graphite
Finish: long, inky finish
Overall impression: A big, bold Italian blend, that needs a comparable food pairing. This is not a sipping wine. If you like dark, ripe fruits, this would be right up your alley.

Michele Satta Piastraia Bolgheri Superiore - located on the Tuscan coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea where Italian winemakers make world class blends from international varietals. This vintage consists of Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet & Syrah (25% each).

Complex, pronounced, continuously developing aromas. Cherry, red plum, dried flowers, with a leather/meaty component. Very concentrated aromas. Hints of sweet smoke, crushed rock and sun dried tomato. Very enticing.

Excellent length - lingering fruit and mineral notes with bitter dark chocolate. Nicely polished tannins, high acidity, full body. This wine needs a char grilled, simply seasoned ribeye steak.

Nose of ripe and tantalizing fruit with some smokiness. Superbly balanced on the palate, with a complex mix of plums, white pepper, blackberry and a bit of buttery sweetness at the end. Very round and balanced, the alcohol, tannins and acidity all combine in harmony for a great sipping wine.

This wine is great by itself, but would also pair well with hearty meat dishes. Well done!

One of my favorite wines from Michele Satta, one of the oldest 5 wineries in the Bolgheri region in Italy. A beautiful blend of Merlot, Cab. Sauv, Sangiovese, and Syrah. The sangiovese gives that bright acidity, syrah gives that rich spiceness, and merlot and cab sauv give the structure to the wine.

It can be drank by itself upon opening and go well with grilled steak or meat sauce pasta

2012 vintage review: Michele Satta's Piastraia Bolgheri Superiore is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet, and Syrah.
