A lovely smooth and rich Gigondas showing superb layers of stewed plum, dark chocolate, sweetened tobacco, and winter spice notes. A full-bodied red blend (Syrah-based) with juicy balanced acidity, developed tannins and a long finish. Pair with braised lamb shanks and cornbread. A blend of classic Rhone varietals - Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. Full bodied and a whack of flavor on the palate - kirsch, gaminess, floral, black cherry - all harmoniously tied into a well balanced, elegant and "full of character" wine that is quite quite a bargain at the less than $30 price tag.

Famille Perrin La Gille 2014, Gigondas, Rhône A.C., France: Such a consistently well-made wine from the south of France: full-bodied, savoury and delicious! Aromas of cedar, wild black cherry and forest floor. A classic French red wine for hedonists. Polished tannins, excellent length, depth and breadth of flavour. Great replays on the palate. This is a traditional blend of Rhone Valley grapes, including Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Pair with lamb and rosemary. Drink: 2017-2025. 906073 14.50% XD 750 mL $32.95 Score: 92/100.
