The first wine ever made by Lehmann for friends and family and originally sold as futures to get some cash to sustain the operation. Now this wine is not only foundational to the portfolio but showcases great heritage and structure. This beauty is made from the grapes that just barely missed the cut from Lehmann’s Stonewell classic and spends 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels (30% new). Very dark red with a purple rim. Aromas of plum, blackberry, chocolate and spice with even more of these rich flavours on the palate. Dusty tannins and great acidity should serve the wine well in aging. The finish is long and luscious.

Most definitely lamb shanks on the menu!

The Futures name comes from the investment that farmers made in Peter Lehmann's wine. This is a great shiraz that is worth betting on. The nose offers blackberry, plum and some mocha. The palate has black fruit, dried cranberry, mocha and a hint of mint.

A wonderful Shiraz from the heart of the Barossa valley. This signature varietal 2013 vintage expresses typicity. The label "Futures" carries a story worthy of being told about how Peter Lehmann started the business with borrowed grapes under a promise to pay the growers when the wine would sell. It sold and the growers were paid, resulting in a word is bond understanding with loyalty at it's foundation and what is said to be a commitment by local growers to producing the best grapes possible. This vintage shows deep purple and 14.5% ABV. Inky, densely concentrated and intense, this wine is rich with blackberry, blackcurrant, spice and full-bodied with high tannins. The 2013 vintage shows amazing density, fruit concentration and continues to uphold its legacy as the "foundation of the future of Barossa Valley Shiraz." The Futures Shiraz is crafted from selected low yield vineyards largely sourced from the Ebenezer sub-region in north-west Barossa. This wine pours with an inky ruby red appearance and a clean developing nose with aromas of black plum, cassis, licorice, dark chocolate, leather and a touch of violets. The dominant flavours include dark chocolate, plum, eucalyptus and graphite minerality. The palate is full bodied with high integrated tannins, a fine balanced acidity and a long minted herb finish. I recommend cellaring this wine for at least another decade as it still in a youthful phase. If drinking now, decant for 1-2 hours and enjoy with braised meats. Presentation: Nice, classic, distinctive label

Nose: Dark chocolate, leather, dark berries
Taste: Tannins, charcoal, floral
Finish: Tannins, floral
Overall impression: Not exactly a sipping wine, although it would pair nicely with grilled meat.
