Greg Hughes rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Heitz is one of Napa's giants for premium reds. They were named one of the world's thirty greatest wines in 1997 by the organizers at a dinner hosted by the famed producer, Louis Roederer.
The 2011 seems very lean and more restrained than previous years. Heitz never needs to pander to the blockbuster red crowd. This wine has a lovely balance of minerality and bright fruit.
The colour is blood red - fairly deep. Overripe raspberry, cherry, cassis, mocha, chocolate, leather, vanilla extract, and wild strawberry on the aromas.
The flavours open up a bit after a few minutes to reveal plum, cassis, wild blackberry, chocolate mousse, cream, espresso, and vanilla bean.
Suave flavours that must be experienced to be believed. Pair it with nothing but time, to experience and appreciate one of Napa's best.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
