Matt Steeves rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

A gorgeous Napa Merlot from the picture perfect 2013 vintage. A blend of 84% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, Shafer's Merlot is superbly balanced with great texture, tannins, and fruit concentration. Bold, with rich smoky dark fruit, black currant, herbs, spice, and everything nice. Shafer has been producing world-class Merlot since 1981 and their 2013 is absolutely lovely! Enjoy now after a two hour decant or cellar for 10-20 years. Enjoy with fennel-rubbed pork roast. Tasted Feb 2016. 94 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca

Natalie's Review

Shafer Merlot 2013, Napa Valley, California, United States: So elegant, august, complex and balanced. If I had zillions, I'd drink this wine daily. I’ve long been a fan of this aristocratic red wine from Napa. This wine comes off as beautifully polished, structured and elegant, and is a blend of 17% Cabernet Sauvignon; 7% Cabernet Franc. Aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, fig, smoke and leather, it’s a classic. Decant 1-2 hours. Pair with hanger steak. Drink: 2016-2023. 346262 15.30% D 750 mL  $94.95 Score: 93/100. The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
