The Cave Spring Cellars La Penna 2010 is a very good blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Very aromatic with dark berry fruit, spice and oak. Would pair very nicely with steak and mushrooms. Tasted January 31, 2016 90/100

Not a wine that you see very often that has Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvingnon grapes that are dried in the Italian, Veneto appassimento style and aged three years in different oak treatments. It has great acidity and tannins, with lots of spice and dark dried fruit on the nose. This would go perfectly with a sharp aged cheese. Worth a special occasion.

A lot of herbaceous notes (mint, sage) on this along with some dark fruit. Smooth dark fruit on the palate, nice balance of fruit along with the savoury notes. Great balance of flavours, nice acid, smooth tannin. Try with rustic meat and mushroom dishes, or even turkey.

Oak and cassis on the nose. The high acid of this cab is balanced off by the fruit. Dark berries dominate the palette. The tannins in this will hold for years.Tasted Jan 31/16

Cave Spring Cellars La Penna 2010, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario VQA, Canada: A full-bodied, balanced red wine blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvingnon grapes. The winery uses the Italian, Veneto appassimento method of drying the grapes to concentrate the flavour. The wine is then matured for 3 years in oak barrels. Lots of dark fruit and toasty oak aromas. Pair with a rare steak for maximum pleasure. Drink: 2014-2019. 224303 14% XD 750 mL $39.95 Score: 90/100. January 31, 2016 Top Rated Red Wine. Full Review
