Bordering on colourless in the glass this very pale lemon white blend is produced under the Doug Gilmour name by Prince Edward County winery Karlo Estates. An odd blend of Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Grigio and the nose is promising in a rich and aromatic way - floral, honey, petrol and butter. The wine is light-bodied and dry with some decent acidity. A slight effervescence with flavours of flint, mineral, stemmy, bitter almond and a long bitter finish. Odd. It got off the bench with me but didn't score.

Gilmour Orus Chardonnay Riesling Pinot Grigio 2012, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Although this wine has been made for the hockey great Doug Gilmour, it's no "enforcer" type blend. Rather it's delicate and floral, as if Doug were inspired by a night at Swam Lake rather than Hockey Night in Canada. White nettles and grapefruit zest make this a good aperitif or companion to seafood. No need to leave this in the cellar or penalty box. Enjoy now.
