WC4.5, FBS
Wirra Wirra ‘Church Block’ Cabernet/Shiraz/Merlot 2012
McLaren Vale, $19.95 (24034) 14.5 % alcohol
There’s a lot going on here with this red—49% Cabernet, 35% Shiraz and 16% Merlot—not a bit of wonder this masterful blend brings on aromas and flavours of dense, velvety, rich fruit—red and black currant and dark cherry with notions of mocha and toasty notes. This ‘Church Block’ offering is significant as its 40th anniversary and as a fabulous vintage. There’s impressive structure with soft tannins. It’s a rich wine that would stand up to just about anything grilled—almost approaching nirvana. This is really yum. (Julie Stock)
Jane Staples rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The name of this McLaren Vale blend of Cab Cauv, Shiraz and Merlot intrigued me, then the wine itself won me over. First, a fragrant nose with lots of dark berries, cassis and vanilla, then the palate repeats with seamlessly blended fruit, vanilla, subtle spice, cedar and slight mint. Silky smooth and harmonious. Aged in French oak barriques for 18 mos. Long silky dark fruit finish - a wow wine!
