Gwen Barton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Wonderful Niagara merlot. Aromas of dark cherry, plum, and cranberry. Medium- bodied, fruity wine- notes of chocolate, leather and tobacco with subtle smokiness. Very enjoyable and excellent value. Paired well with smoke-cured cheddar.
Matt Steeves rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Angels Gate Winery 2012 Merlot recently won a Double Gold medal at the All Canadian Wine Championship. After my first sniff and sip of this value priced gem, I can see why the independent expert judging panel awarded such high honours to this little gem.

A medium ruby colour with a garnet hue, the aromas are just wonderful! Plum, dark cherry, slight baking spice with pleasant cedar notes. There's a certain heart warming bouquet that I get just like when you walk into your grandma's house after she's baked some delicious goodies for you to enjoy, fresh out of the oven. The palate is silky smooth with more plum and dark fruits. Very soft and approachable. To be enjoyed in the short to medium term. Only 1500 cases produced so I'd recommend stocking-up on it before it's gone. At $14.95 this is a great example of the high quality to price ratio (QPR) wines that Canadian wineries like Angels Gate are producing. Tasted January 2015. 90+ points. Matt Steeves - @QuercusVino

PS: Beamsville Bench wines continue to impress me more and more each year. It's becoming one of my favourite micro-climate wine making regions in Canada given the consistent quality, and generally very affordably priced wines that are being produced there.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
